The process of building the statue of Christ the King

The statue of Christ the King is also known as the Statue of Christ spreading hands and statue of Christ on the top of Tao Phung mountain. The statue was built in 1974 but due to the 1975 event, it was not until 20 years later.

In early 1992, after nearly 18 years of stagnation, priest Tran Van Huyen - the head of Vung Tau parish with the consent of the local authorities, carried out the repair of the statue. At this time, the statue was severely degraded due to many reasons, mainly climate and weather.

In addition, the statue is located on a height of 176m above sea level, so the transportation of materials is also extremely hard. However, with the effort of the Church, the work was inaugurated two years later, ie in 1994.

Compared to the original design, the statue of God has many changes to suit the harsh weather, big sunshine and high winds on the Nho Mountain.

During the renovation of the God's statue, a large-scale fortification system was discovered built by the French in the late nineteenth century. This system includes 7 basements, each with a length of 7m and a width of 4m. Inside there are 2 cannons, currently displayed on the path to the statue of God for tourists.

When the statue is finished, it is honed for smoothness. According to the process, the workers will grind from the top and then remove the scaffolding respectively. An elderly priest took advantage when the scaffold had not been fully removed and climbed up to kiss God's face. He is also the first and only person to get this bless up to now.

In 1993, the statue of Christ the King was recognized as a national cultural-historical relic. This is also the largest statue of Christ in Asia by the Asian Record Organization in 2012.

The unique architecture of the statue of Christ the King

Located on Tao Phung peak 176m high, to reach the statue of God visitors must pass 777 stone steps.
