Thay Pagoda, the sacred place hidden in the high mountains

Thay Pagoda is located on the top of Thay Mountain in Sai Son Commune, Quoc Oai District, Hanoi. From the city center, visitors take about 30 minutes to travel by motorbike along Thang Long Boulevard to the temple. The climb up to Thay Pagoda is quite easy, only a few steep sections. After 15 minutes of climbing, you will reach the temple gate. Thay Pagoda appears with a profound scenery, ancient and vaguely subtle scent.

Legend has it that this ancient temple was built in the Ly dynasty, the place where Zen monk Tu Dao Hanh practiced. Currently, in the temple grounds, there is still a relic of the Holy Palace, a traditional place where Zen monk Tu Dao Hanh turned his life. Behind the pagoda is Cac Co cave. This cave exudes mystery in the quiet space. Once upon a time, Cac Co cave was a place of love for young men and women in the village on festivals.

Referring to Thay's pagoda, visitors from near and far or locals often think of a hundred-year-old pond, peaceful in front of the temple yard. On sweltering summer days, the pond is a cool bathing place for Da Phuc villagers. It is also the venue for the traditional water puppet show at each temple festival.
