This medieval-origin town is called Setenil de las Bodegas, after a winery built in the region. Today, the town retains a medieval fortress castle overlooking the town. But what attracts the most tourists is: a large number of the town's restaurants, offices, streets, and houses are built inside boulders protruding from cliffs eroded by the river of Rio Trejo.

Stenil is now one of the white towns of the Andalusian autonomous region (Spain), but splits itself into a separate settlement, mainly built on steep slopes, in cliffs and atop high mountains with buildings built of many different rocks. Some of the town's buildings even have a garden, even an olive grove that grows naturally on the roof.

The town extends along the rocky mountains of Rio Trejo with many houses built into the cliffs. The house was built by expanding natural or protruding caves, and adding an extra reinforced wall. Sometimes, homeowners are "so lazy" that all they need to build is just a facade.

Apart from the quirky feature of being "crushed", this town is like any other peaceful village of Spain with small cobblestone streets, tiny colorful bushes, streets with people traveling leisurely, not too noisy by the sound of traffic. Setenil de las Bodegas makes people think of a peaceful land where only white houses live on nature. The white color was chosen for the house is not random but purposely, to reflect sunlight to keep the town cool in all weather conditions.

You will feel surprised and excited when walking on the different roads here like Cuevas de la Sombra or Cuevas del Sol. Houses only see the façade, the rest is inserted inside the cliff, so no house has chimney as usual in old houses. Although the cliffs protrude into narrow streets, the town still receives enough light and does not affect the lives of the people. Moreover, whether winter or summer, the area is always cool.
