Melaleuca mushroom

Phu Quoc is very famous for Melaleuca mushrooms, which grow after the first rain of the year (around March - April lunar calendar). This is a natural fungus, quickly growing but very quickly fading, life cycle is only about a month per year. Therefore, whenever the cajuput mushroom season comes, on the tray of Phu Quoc people often have more familiar dishes with mushrooms. However, you do not need to go to Phu Quoc in the mushroom season to enjoy this signature dish, as restaurants and bars store mushrooms in the fridge to eat all year round.
