Belonging to Yemen, Socotra is located in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Somalia. This is one of the most famous islands in the world, with a unique landscape, captured by Russian photographer Kristina Makeeva during her trip.
The isolated location and hot dry climate, with frequent cyclones from May to September and milder winters, the island has unique flora. As a result, Socotra is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The symbol of the island is the dragon's blood tree, Dracaena cinnabari, shaped like a giant mushroom. The sap is red like blood and is used by indigenous peoples as medicine and cosmetics.
The dragon's blood trees and the mountain landscape make this place a strange beauty, nowhere else.

In addition, the island also has white sand dunes located next to the sea, creating splendid and spectacular scenery.
At night, visitors will enjoy the clear starry sky above the dragon blood trees or the majestic desert.

Before the airport was built in 1999, people could only reach the island by cargo ship. The ideal time to visit Socotra is from October to April next year. The island also has only a few guest houses, you can bring a tent to camp at the beach.
Flora in Socotra is threatened by alien species, climate change as well as human livestock activities. Scientists predict that if not protected, the endemic landscape of this place will completely disappear in the future.
