The ugly Frozen Elsa statue in Sapa, Vietnam has been dismantled

Mr. Do Van Tan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Pa town, Lao Cai province, said that the local government had just completed the dismantling of the Frozen Elsa statue at the An Sa Pa check-in point which is in the center of public opinion in recent days.

The statue is made of composite plastic, which is a prefabricated statue that does not have to be built on site. The statue with height 3m, width 3m is installed on the roof floor of the first floor of a flat roof house that has been built for a long time and has a certificate of land use right.

The reason for dismantling is because this work has not been recognized as a tourist destination and has not yet obtained a construction permit.

The dismantling was carried out from the afternoon of July 21, however, it was necessary to have technical skills, so it was not completed until the morning of July 22.

The statue of ice queen Elsa is subject to much criticism from the online community.

Previously, on July 19, after the Elsa statue was erected, it immediately encountered a wave of public criticism "ugly", "losing the image of Sapa", the town government suspended construction. Then, on July 20, the People's Committee of the town continued to issue a document requesting the investor to take the initiative in dismantling, otherwise it would be enforced.

At the end of April 2021, at the same check-in point in An Sa Pa, another statue with the image of the goddess of liberty was erected, which also received many similar criticisms for its aesthetics, and then was also suspended. However, this statue is fortunate to not have to be dismantled, but oriented to be adjusted to suit the eyes.

It is known that new check-in points have appeared in Sa Pa since mid-2019 and have really been noticed by the public since the "ugly" statue of liberty was photographed and posted on social networks.

Over the past few months, the People's Committee of Sa Pa town together with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lao Cai province has issued many documents and consulted with relevant ministries and agencies, but have not yet completed the management regulations and accompanying legal procedures, because this type of business is so new, there is no concept in the Law on Tourism itself.
